Arthur Murray Central New Jersey Presents: Arthur Murray LIVE!

‘What’s this?’ you may be thinking, ‘the staff of Arthur Murray Central New Jersey can do things other than dance really really well? Impossible!’ From acting and directing to classical opera and musical theater, AM Central New Jersey has enough pooled talent to put on an entire Broadway show — which is exactly what they are doing on October 12th!

The Show

Next Friday, the community is invited to a spectacular Broadway night live — a ravishing review of music and dance. Watch as your dance instructors transform from the friendly faces you see every week to Beauty and the Beast, or the Phantom that haunts the opera!

The staff of AMCNJ puts on a show for its students a couple times a year as inspiration to their dedicated students and is one of the few times that students get the chance to see teachers dancing with each other and witness the joy that dance still brings them, even after all the years of training, practicing, and teaching.

The professional show will be the last act in a wonderful night of dinner, general dancing, and student showcases. Saturday will be an entire day dedicated to dancing, with feedback for students by expert coaches.

Here is a list of the shows that will be featured:

Damn yankees — The story is a modern retelling of the Faust legend set during the 1950s in Washington, D.C., during a time when the New York Yankees dominated Major League Baseball.

Beauty and the beast — Disney’s adaptation of the Oscar-winning movie, featuring a young woman named Belle and a prince entrapped in the body of a Beast.

Phantom of the opera — the phantom of the opera is the longest running musical in Broadway history — going on 30 years. A hideously deformed man lives in the cellars of the Paris Opera and takes a beautiful soprano as a student.

Rent — This groundbreaking musical about poor young artists in New York City’s Lower East Side during the AIDS/HIV crisis won the Tony Award for Best Musical as well as The Pulitzer Prize for Best Drama.

Hairspray — ‘Hairspray’, based on the 1988 film of the same name, is the story of a young girl in Baltimore, who uses dance to find fame and friendship.

Annie — The iconic musical about an orphan and her search to find her parents, featuring famous songs such as “It’s a Hard Knock Life.”

Mama Mia — This lively pop musical, featuring the songs of ’70s Swedish super-group ABBA, has run for more than a decade with nightly standing ovations.

Cinderella — The Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical offers a surprisingly contemporary take on the classic tale.

In the Heights — Winner of the 2008 Tony Award for Best Musical, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘In the Heights’ is the story of three eventful days in the vibrant community of Washington Heights.

A chorus Line — This musical classic is a celebration of those unsung heroes of the Broadway musical:the chorus dancers–those valiant, underpaid, highly trained performers who live in the background of the limelight.

Miss saigon — Cameron Mackintosh’s new Olivier Award-nominated is based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly, and similarly tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover.

Hair — Directed by Diane Paulus, this Tony Award winning musical features everything essential about the 60’s; rock, drug use, and nudity.

Jersey Boys — The hit musical about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, which won four Tony Awards including Best Musical, and ran for over 11 years on Broadway.
